Nato a Imperia il 15 gennaio 1948. Coniugato con Maria Teresa Verda,
docente di storia dell'arte, e' padre di due figli Pier Carlo e Lucia.
Laureato in Giurisprudenza all'UniversitĂ di Genova. Dirigente INPDAP.
Deputato da quattro legislature, è stato eletto nel 2008 nella
Circoscrizione X (Liguria) per il Popolo della LibertĂ ; nel 2006 sia
nella Circoscrizione Liguria che in quella Puglia nelle liste di Forza
Italia; nel 2001 nel Collegio Liguria 2 ed altresì in Liguria, nelle
Marche e in Puglia come capolista di Forza Italia nel proporzionale;
nel 1996 sempre nel collegio Liguria 2 nella lista del Polo per le
LibertĂ .
Dall’8 maggio 2008 è nominato
ministro dello Sviluppo Economico nel governo Berlusconi IV.
Dal 2006 al marzo 2008 è stato Presidente del Comitato parlamentare per
i servizi di informazione e sicurezza e per il segreto di Stato.
Nel III governo Berlusconi, è stato Ministro delle Attività Produttive.
Nel II governo Berlusconi, ha ricoperto gli incarichi prima di Ministro
dell'Interno (dall'11 giugno 2001), poi di Ministro per l'attuazione
del programma di Governo (dal 31 luglio 2003).
Dal 1998 al 2001 gli è stato affidato il Coordinamento Nazionale di
Forza Italia.
Dal 1996 al 1998 è stato il responsabile nazionale dell'organizzazione
di Forza Italia.
E’ stato per due volte sindaco della città di Imperia: nel 1982-83 e
nel 1990-95.

Born in Imperia on the 15th of January 1948. Married to Maria Teresa Verda,
art history teacher, and father of two, Pier Carlo and Lucia. Graduated in Law
at the University of Genoa. General Manager of INPDAP.
Member of Parliament for the last four legislatures, he was elected in 2008
in the 10th constituency (Liguria) for the Popolo della LibertĂ party;
in 2006 in both the Liguria and Puglia constituencies, in the Marche region
and in Puglia as the top candidate on the electoral list of the Forza Italia party
in the proportional representation elections; in 1996 in the lists of the Polo
per le LibertĂ in the Liguria 2 constituency.
On May, 2008 he was appointed Minister for the Economic Development in the
4th Berlusconi government.
From 2006 to March 2008 he was President of the Parliamentary Committee for
the Intelligence and Security Services and for State Secret Control.
In the third Berlusconi government he was Minister of Productive Activities.
In the second Berlusconi government he was initially Minister of Internal Affairs
(from 11 June, 2001) and then Minister for the Implementation of the Government
Programme (from 31 June, 2003).
From 1998 to 2001 he was entrusted with the National Coordination of the Forza
Italia party
